Plucky Survivors See Europe: Are We Not Entertained?
The changes and additions to the itinerary continue.
Just today I have changed dates, cancelled, and/or booked new hotels in Lisbon (adding a day), Porto (shifted a day), Leon (cancelled), Bilbao (shifted by a day), Bordeaux (shifted a day), Le Mans (shifted a day), Brussels (shifted a day and chose a different hotel with parking), and Amsterdam (shifted a day). Since I’m arriving in Amsterdam a day later, I also had to add a day to the rental car term, but the rebooking of it actually saved me $500 so woohoo.
A lot of this was to accommodate being able to see the Helder Guimaraes magic show in Porto and I think it’ll totally be worth it.
The quest for entertainment also drove some ticket purchases today.
In Berlin I’m going to see three shows.
Carnival Royal at the Chameleon is described as a “queer cabaret” with aerial acrobatics, sideshow acts, and drag performers.
Ahoi at the Wintergarden Variete is described thusly: “Just like aboard a glamorous luxury liner of the 1930s, rousing big band music, maritime elegance, and breathtaking acrobatics merge into a total experience that captures both seafaring romance and a spirit of adventure.”
The description of Circus Elusion is “Where Sideshow and Cabaret meet in an eclectic blend of bizarre, comedy and seggs appeal.”
In Prague, apparently black light theatre is a big thing, where a blacked out stage uses black lights and fluorescent costumes and props to create scenes. I’m going to Theatre Srnec, which has been doing this since 1961. I’m also going to La Scene Cabaret, which is dancing and acrobatics and dinner.
Although I haven’t booked tickets yet, I’m also looking at Moulin Rouge and other entertainment in Paris; flamenco and Fado shows in Spain and Portugal; a couple of quirky cabaret shows in Italy; and more.
This is in addition to the Duran Duran concert and “The Devil Wears Prada” musical starring Vanessa Williams that I’m seeing in London.
It may not be ten Broadway shows in seven days, but I will be entertained!
