Days Inn Hershey

During our 2009 trip we visited Hershey, Pennsylvania and were ensconced in the Days Inn smack dab on Chocolate Avenue in the center town, in fact the closest of any hotel to the parks.

Sure it's a chain but rooms are generously sized, they come with a microwave, a mini-fridge, coffee service, free high-speed Internet service, and more. Furnishings are utilitarian, standard-motel issue stuff, but well-maintained and everything was clean. There was one issue when Rick’s room, supposedly non-smoking, had definitely been smoked in but that was quickly rectified.

Service at the front desk is top notch. Upon checking in a receptionist handed us several sheets of paper loaded with suggestions for nearby restaurants (for which they have menus) and other helpful hints.

They also provide a free and prompt shuttle to all Hershey attractions, an indoor pool, a fitness center, laundry facilities, a small game arcade and free parking, which considering the $36 per night valet only parking charges we racked up during stays in other cities, we were very happy about.

In the morning there’s a complimentary continental breakfast with a small but satisfactory array of choices. Note that if you see a full parking lot (which we did on Labor Day weekend) you should translate that to a full dining room in the morning. There wasn’t a seat to be had when we passed by.

Also notable is that this town in general, and this hotel specifically, are geared toward families so people who are child-averse may want to consider another destination for their vacation or at least a more upscale hotel if they want to come here for the chocolate.

Prices are downright affordable, with rates usually hovering within $10 or $20 either way of the $100 mark. Very busy times may drive those rates up but probably not too much.

All of the amenities and services at this price point make The Days Inn Hershey an attractive option for your stay in town. It may not be the most luxurious place on earth, but the budget conscious would have a hard time getting more for less anywhere else.
