And we’re off! One For My Plucky and (at least) One More For the Road is the name we have given to our Plucky Mini trip, which started this afternoon in our hometown of LA and made it all the way to our hometown of LA. Hey… that’s why we call it a Plucky Mini trip. We’ll go further tomorrow, we promise.
It’s raining in Los Angeles and has been all day long, which is annoying but hard to complain too much about. We’ve had such good weather on all of our trips in the past that a little bit of LA drizzle is hard to get too worked up about. Having said that we still are blaming Steve, who is tagging along on the first leg of this trip, since the last time he was with us on a Plucky trip it rained then too. Coincidence? You decide.
We set off in Rick’s new car, officially rechristened Plucky Mobile 4.5, and went to the Self Realization Fellowship Temple in Hollywood. Mary grew up going to the park-like temple in Pacific Palisades but despite having lived in the general neighborhood of the one in Hollywood for 20-odd years, she had never visited. It was nice – small, simple, pretty lamps.
Next we went to the Museum of Death, which again if that shocks you considering the circumstances under which we are traveling right now, you really don’t know us very well. It’s gruesome in all sorts of different ways both delicious and not so delicious with everything from serial killer artwork to crime scene photographs to celebrity death miscellanea. Mary loved it, Rick closed his eyes a lot, and Steve looked bemused.
We checked into the hotel so we could recoup and get all dressed up in our finery because we were off to the Magic Castle, where our hosts for the evening, Arlene and Tom, treated us with a fabulous time. There were drinks and dinner and magic shows and general merriment and we have much to discuss regarding this part of the evening but those soft Sofitel beds are calling. We’ll write more tomorrow. Or the next day. Or the one after that.
Tomorrow we’re going to actually leave Los Angeles and experience bunnies, bananas, and more on our way to Palm Springs. See you then.
