Arthur Bryant’s Barbeque
1727 Brooklyn Ave.
Kansas City, MO 64127
Fans of barbecue can be a zealous bunch, flocking to and defending various regions of the US as being “the best.” But whether or not you want to call it the best or not, almost everyone agrees that the BBQ that comes out of the Kansas City region is pretty damn good.
We visited one of the legendary KC BBQ joints – Arthur Bryant’s, a no frills restaurant that has been in business for nearly eight decades, serving up their signature sauce to presidents, celebrities, and common folk like us.
There are several outlets in Kansas City but we ate at the original, a simply storefront on a mostly deserted street just east of Downtown.
We got what we’ll choose to call a sampler plate but was really just a pound of meat – brisket, sausage, ribs, and more served with classic white bread and a variety of sauces to choose from. We declare ourselves fans of the Sweet Heat, probably because it taps into our sugar jones and thought the sausage and ribs were the best on the plate but it was all good and we ate every last ounce.
